I use Cable. DSL would be my second choice if Cable was not available to me.
Molly, If you check around, there are places that carry DSL for a tiny bit more then the cost of Dial-up.
What I've found for DSL in your area are:
Verizon DSL has a special going if you order online it's $14.95 a month.
You could also look into your local phone company for DSL as well.

You know the big wheel keeps on spinnin around
And Im goin with some hesitation
You know that I can surely see
That I dont want to get caught up in any of that
Funky $hit goin down in the city

I have Cable. I used to hear so much good things about DSL, that one day I decided to switch, and that was a big mistake. The stupid DSL modem kept re-setting every 5 minutes, and to top it off, DSL still requires a log-on process. When cable, you just open up the internet and start surfing. Nice and fast, the only way it should be
I used to have Dial-Up when I first got the internet, and it was horrible. The service I went with charged by the hour. I got 30 minutes of surfing time a week for $29.99 and for every hour I exceeded, cost me $1 extra. Once you get Cable, there ain't no going back

You must've had a pretty half ass provider then, Whistle... I don't have any log on process. My connection's always on, the modem/router veeeery rarely has had any problems (knocks on wood). Then again, I also live relatively close to the main hub of the network, so I have an optimal connection for DSL

I use cable all the way. I worked with Verizon DSL for two years, and suffice it to say, it's second only to AOL in being crappy. I can't speak for AT&T, but Verizon's unreliable, affected easily by weather, and the service technicians take fricking forever to fix service outages unless they affect any significant number of people in any significant way. With cable, if I have a problem, I set up an appointment, and it's fixed as soon as I get someone out.
