Cell Phones

Post by BlueMolly2006 »

Okay do you own a cell phone? Do you not own a cell phone. If you don't own one, why not?

I chose no, and I don't plan on getting one. I just don't see what the big thing is about them. I personally think people misuse them. Cell phones should only be used for emergencies only, IMHO.

Yup! I have one... though I don't use it an extraordinate amount... just when necessary. But where I'm almost always on the go, I have to have it or I'm unreachable.. home phone's practically worthless :p

I do have a cell phone because my current job requires a certain availability...and for sending short text messages to my girlfriend. ;)

I have one as a substitute for a regular landline, which I almost never used anyway. I was paying $55/month for phone service I used maybe once or twice a month. I use my cellphone more often, plus I get portability and only one bill.

I'm sorry, but what did people do before cell phones? It's like if you don't have a cell phone you aren't "in". I've been questioned about why I don't have one and when I get the reason I get laughed at and been told that I need to get one. Aren't cell phone fees expensive? I mean don't you get roaming charges? I would think they would be more expensive than landline phones? I guess I might be the only ones who isn't interested in getting one. If I did get one I would only use it if I NEEDED to, not to talk to anyone. I would only use it if I was late for an appointment or if I had an emergency.

I never needed one when I was younger as I wasn't working on the go and could actually be reached at home

The expense really depends on how much you actually plan to use the phone... if you get a service plan, it's usually about 30/month. But if you're a light user, you can get a pay as you go phone and only have to recharge it $20 every 90 days... I think that'd be perfect for you where you'd only use it for emergency... you wouldn't need a lot of minutes on it. And most pay as you go have no roaming charges and a flat rate nationwide on minutes ;)

I have never gotten a roaming charge since going Verizon in 2004. I get long distance. 700 minutes peak time per month. Unlimited nights and weekends. Unlimited airtime when calling other Verizon phones. $40/month. My verizon service has been more reliable than my landline. There was only ONE day when I had no cell service, but I went six days without a landline, including an entire three-day weekend. If not for the cell phone, I'd've had NO phone service for three days. Imagine if there had been an emergency...

My base landline was $35/month. My long distance was another $25/month for 500 minutes.
