Kids talked me into another dog so I went a few days ago after searching for one and got them one.I was trying to avoid it and picked out the biggest dog I could find and my wife agreed to let them have him. In 6-8 months I will have a horse running around the house. He is a Great Dane and is 8 weeks old. He's been a pain in my rear since he came home but he does do some crazy things. My other dog doesn't care for him much unless it involves food.
He had his vet visit already and goes back in 2 weeks for more shots.I gave him a de working pill just to be safe even though he didn't have that problem.

Thanks! He is a handful already but nothing we can't handle or haven't been through before with a puppy. I am crate training him for now even though in a few months the biggest store bought crate won't be big enough. I just hope my landlord doesn't get upset cause I will move before I give up another animal. We have only had him a short time but we are already attached to him

Congratulations with the new addition to your family, Shawn!
A Great Dane? Yes, he WILL be a handful as he ages than-
ks in part to his expected size, and if he's mischievo-
us at this size, when he's older he could be extra
work... unless he matures quicker which too
can happen. Don't worry about it though
unless he's causing too much chaos i-
n the home. I guess your other d-
ogs have settled down and m-
ay not care much for the
excitement, but after
becoming more fa-
miliar, he shou-
ld start calm-
ing down a
bit mor-
e. I h-
ope.

My Rat Terrier hates him and me now for bringing him home.He will only come to me when no one else is home,if I have food,or he needs to go outside. He's pouting like a baby LOL
The Great Dane is learning fast.Since Sunday,he has learned that when the crate door opens,it means to go to the door.He also knows that when he is done outside to go back to his crate and get his treat.
The accidents have almost stopped.I think he had a small one while I was at work but nothing major. The biggest problem we have is he chews on anything he can get in his mouth.I have several toys in his crate to try to show him that they are the only things to be chewed on,but it's not working so well.Jumping on us is a problem I am trying to correct as well.He will be 75 lbs very fast and I can't have a dog that big jumping on me or the kids. I am patient with him and will hopefully have him broke of these habits soon.I found out how smart those dogs really are. I really wanted a Black Lab and have been looking for one,but everyone wants $300-$400 for one just because they have papers.I don't breed animals so I didn't care about the papers,I wanted a dog as a family pet. Now I have a soon to be horse as a new member. I think it will work out great.I am home all week and I spent most of the time with him and training him to sit on command. He is making good progress for the week we have had him.

Bad news about the puppy.I had to give him away.Landlord found out and made threats to kick us out for having a large breed dog. With the way things are going with my back right now and my wife's health,I found him a good home. I delivered him to the people to make sure they said who they were and that he had the room he needed to run. All checked out and they even email me pictures and updates on him. They are taking good care of him and I am glad I found a good match for the large dog he will be in a few months.

This is one of the latest pictures the new owners sent me this past week.He is getting big and spoiled!
He looks like he is worn out laying on the couch! I am glad I found someone who will take good care of him.I only had him about 9 days but still miss having him around since he kept me on my feet chasing after him around the house. We plan on moving within a few years and will get a large breed dog when we do.I will likely get a lab again.

So sorry to hear that you had to find a home for him!

He's such a cute one! At least you found him a good home! He's growing fast!

I'm sorry to learn that you had to give up your
puppy, Shawn. Having a large breed or a b-
reed that can grow to be huge will defi-
nitely be a challenge in apartments.
Even in a home it's not easy sinc-
e such dogs will need a lot of
space for movement and t-
hey tend to produce a g-
ood deal of property
damage if they m-
iss you or are j-
ust overacti-
ve by nat-
ure. I a-
m su-
re
you'll
come to
appreciate
not have to r-
un after him so
often, even thoug-
h health-wise, it may
have been good for you
within reason. I'm sure you
can find other ways to keep y-
ourself active with the other pet-
s. I hope you and your wife's health c-
ontinues to improve. I wish you both well.
