Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
I do so religiously. I'll go through several pages of consumer reviews and read every little thing. Then it's reading reviews at the main review sites. It usually takes me a few weeks before I make up my mind about a specific product, especially big ticket items.
Also -Do you usually read the most recent reviews first?
I do...because most times they've improved the product on previews flaws or problems with buggy software, so in my opinion, it helps and saves time to read the newest reviews first.

I'm the exact same way with most things. I'll check as many reviews as I can and mull it over a while before deciding. Not much worse than ending up with a lemon of a product, so beneficial to do the homework first and make sure what you're getting is all you want it to be.
Re: Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
I do on most things if I don't know much about the product I am looking for.
I have been looking at LCD TVs for a few months now and I get my tax return today and decided on the Samsung 32" LCD.
I went to walmart and compared teh picture to others they had sitting there and the Samsung had the best and brightest picture of them all.Of course the contrast is 8000:1 compared to the other that were from 800-1000:1,Big difference.

Yeah, I don't buy anything without reading the consumer reviews first. Technology products simply vary too widely in quality these days to take my chances with buying things blindly. Well, I almost never take my chances, anyway. In the case of products where I already own one and have been happy with it, I don't need to bother reading a review for buying a new model as a replacement. That's the only exception, though.

Re: Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
Depends on how much I'm going to spend - although my latest costly purchase, a notebook by Asus, was bought just on the data given by the retailer store.
Reading product reviews is one thing, especially when they offer oppositional opinions...it's the live test a product must pass before I buy it.
One example: I was out for a new TV set and had read a review about it saying that picture and sound were quite good for the price, but the handling of the remote control being rather difficult.
After 15 minutes on fiddling around with the brick aka remocon without getting the desired results I gave up and refrained from buying this model. I use the remocon quite frequently (TV text etc.) and don't felt the need for additional stress at home.

Re: Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
When it comes to electronics, usually I check out some reviews. If it's overwhelming, I may drop it all and just not get whatever I was planning on getting. But usually I've done okay.
I used cnet.com to decide on which camcorder and digital camera to get. I took a chance with the bicycle I got and it turned out alright since it's an affordable and simple bike. For the truck I went with Toyota because it's Toyota. I read the reviews anyways.

Yeah, I read them as well. I also try to get advice from others that I know when I purchase something. It never hurts to see what opinions are brought to light.

Anything I'm going to pay a significant amount for I always look into first. After all, I'm not going to want to go out and buy a second one because the first didn't work out for me. When I bought my Sansa View I spent a couple days worth of research to make sure it was the best one for what I wanted it for in my price range.

I used to, but I'm currently suffering from something like a "product review writers bloc".soloist wrote:It depends on the product, but o-

Re: Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
Another thing I read reviews for is books I want to read. It's not the amount of money it costs because usually I get them at the library. I'm looking to see if I want to invest my time into reading it. I don't read the reviews too much into detail since it doesn't take much for me to like a book or movie. But I just skim through the reader reviews on amazon.com to get a grasp of what the book will be about. If there are some favorable reviews, I usually go ahead and get the book. I don't recall being really disappointed in any book I've read so far.

Re: Do you read product reviews before purchasing it?
I sometimes do, but after buying BANGKOK DANGEROUS on Blu-Ray, I don't think I will anymore. Reviews I read said it was a must have for action fans. So I bought it thinking it was good, and man was it ever a terrible movie
