Eh... Rocketdock goes at the top of the screen. I've already long since gotten used to all my program icons being on the left or at the bottom. Besides, all the stuff I use on a regular basis is right there in the taskbar. That works perfectly fine for me. :\

Actually, my preference is nearly nothing at all anywhere on the desktop -- at one point it was totally empty (even the default icons hidden), but then I got lazy and started dumping crap on it. I use hotkeys for my most used stuff, quick launch for most other things.

About the only thing I menu crawl for is the ridiculous number of various programs I have for video editing, which is another thing I really ought to reorganize.

Well, you can see how I only have one single row of icons on the left side of my desktop right now. That's about as much as I can stand, so if I ever have to add anything that would prompt a second row to appear, I'd probably baleet something else to keep it down to one row. The popup menu in the taskbar only has four icons in it, too: links to my anime and random crap folders, Trillian, and Chrome. The only things I ever use the start menu for on a regular or semi-regular basis are the programs I use to remotely log in to work, Any Video Converter, and the stuff I use for fansubbing. That's not too bad.

Nyez. Indeed it is. Now you can enjoy your clean desktop by opening windows over top of it so you can't see it. :p

RocketDock can be placed on any edge of the screen that you like. I just place it at the top at personal preference. I also have it set to pop out when I hover my cursor near the top so I don't have to move windows or minimize anything. StarDock have a similar program called ObjectDock, but it's a bit bloated for the basic version ($20 for Plus)... requiring at least 128 MB's instead of 16-32 MB's of RAM for the same functions as RocketDock.

StarDock also have a new program called Fences, which is designed to be more of an icon wrangling utility program... which is free as well (Pro version in development). Check it out at http://www.stardock.com/products/fences/index.asp

It'll be interesting to see how many of the functions in programs like RocketDock are integrated into Windows 7 right from the start. The taskbar is supposed to be a lot more flexible than it was before.

Well, they finally made it so that rearranging taskbar buttons (for open windows) is possible by default - about time. Also quick launch is where it was before, only this time when you click on a quick launch button, it opens the program AND the quick launch button becomes the taskbar button for that window. When the window is closed, it goes back to being quick launch.

Huh... that seems odd that the quick launch icon would turn into a taskbar icon. What if I want to use the thing more than once without closing the program first, like if I opened a folder on my computer and then navigated away from it, then wanted to reopen the original one? :\ But yeah, it's about fookin' time that they let me rearrange the items in the taskbar manually. I can't even remember how many times I've had to close and reopen programs to get them in the order I wanted in the taskbar. Yeesh.

I have no idea how the folder thing would go, I never tried putting a folder shortcut in the quick launch.

It just works like a normal shortcut icon in XP, but I have no idea how 7 will handle it. Guess we'll just have to wait and see. :\ In the meantime, I wonder how long it's gonna take before netbooks start coming with 7 on them instead of XP. Of the three major items I want at the moment (flat screen TV, nice desktop computer, netbook), the netbook is probably the first one I'd get, since it's the cheapest, but I'm not gonna bother unless it has 7 on it.
