Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
Dude, there shouldn't even be any doormat teams in any size league as long as every team manager actually makes an effort to set their custom pre-draft rankings and keep his or her team up to date as the season goes along. Doormat teams usually come about as a result of not updating lineups for weeks or months, thereby losing points from having roster spots left empty when bench players who were playing could have filled them. Unless the random people gaimeguy would
ing on are either too hockey-ignorant or too lazy to update their rosters properly, they should be able to compete just as well as any of us. <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
The only downfall to a larger league is that a star player's injury pretty much spells certain doom for that player's fantasy team, whereas if there are fewer teams, star players are slightly more replaceable.

Hey, working around injury is a part of the actual NHL. Shouldn't it be a part of fantasy hockey leagues, too? <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
In large part, it is, but if your star player gets hurt, who do you replace him with? Let's say Martin Brodeur gets injured and is out for the year. Whoever has him is screwed royally in the goaltending department, considering they might have to sign Byron Dafoe or someone. At least there's a Tomas Vokoun waiting in the wings in a smaller league.<
><
>That said, I wasn't as into that other league because there was little strategy involved. There were only one or two bench spots, so the not-so-active players could theoretically do well, barring injuries.

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
Yeah, the normal style of league is much better. Anyway, making sure you have depth at the goalie position is part of the strategy involved in fantasy hockey. If your star goalie is your only good goalie, you didn't draft very carefully, so it's your own fault for taking that risk. I'm more careful than to do something like that, so I don't generally worry about it. <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
A team usually has three goalies...in a six-team league, that's about 18 goalies. If one gets injured, a decent goalie is around the corner. In a 12-team league, if one goalie gets hurt, you have to start rummaging through G. Backups. It doesn't matter how deep your roster is; injuries, especially to really good goalies, hurt big time. Imagine replacing Martin Brodeur with Norm Maracle.

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
Norm who and what now? I understand your point, but there are actually some really good G. Backups out there who would probably be starting if they played for somebody else (e.g. Prusek, who's now on the Jackets. Muaha. ). Getting one of them wouldn't hurt your stats any as a result of bad games; it'd only hurt your stats as a result of lack of playing time. At least your GAA and SV% would stay good, anyway. <

As I have told you guys before. I'm a fan and not a coach. I would be wasting time. <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
You don't have to be a coach. Do you think any of us are? All you really have to do is:<
><
>1) Pick your draft order.<
><
>Here, you basically rank as many players as you want in the order you'd like to acquire them in the draft. When your turn comes up, whichever of the players left is highest on your list gets drafted.<
><
>2) Add/Drop Players<
><
>During the season, if a player you have is so bad that he's not even worth trading, then drop him from the team to waivers. You can then sign a waiver or free agent player to fill the empty spot.<
><
>3) Trade<
><
>If you're in a situation where a trade might be beneficial to both teams (IE: you have too many D, person B has too many RW), then offer a balanced trade with that person.<
><
>So long as you have a vague idea of who's good and who isn't (and Yahoo provides complete info on all their stats throughout the season), you shouldn't have any real troubles staying at least somewhat competetive throughout the season.<
><
>If you really don't want to, don't, but if you're just worried about being able to compete, don't worry too much. It's mostly guessing which players will do the best in the majority of stats. There are many rules of<
>physics that govern our world.<

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
Wario must be too lazy to update his roster on at least a semi-regular basis. Otherwise he'd quit making that same old excuse and join the league already. <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
And I'm saying that reason still doesn't make any sense. Why don't you just say you don't like managing a team? That's at least a valid reason, unlike that "I'm a fan, not a coach" thing. <

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
I think I know why Wario won't join: Wario doesn't want to damage his untarnished record of eating all of us...well, never mind that; he doesn't always win our quizzes and always ends up a juror in RCA Survivor games (though in all fairness, he was VOTED out of those games.) He doesn't want to end up 7th out of 7 here and have it ruin his good record.

Re: Return of the Roundtable Hockey League!
guys Records don't have anything to do with it. Frog was more accurate when he said the thing about not liking managing a team. I just love the game and enjoy watching more than anything else. <
