What is your opinion on remakes?

It can be almost anything, including movies, video games, etc.

Remakes in video games can be very good... for instance, the original Resident Evil remake... sometimes called just that... "RE-make" on GCN was a masterpiece IMO. Also when old titles are revamped with more up to date graphics... that can be pretty cool :) Though with those, it's not so much a remake as it is a revamping.

In movies though.... 9.5 times outta 10.... JUNK. There's just about always something lost or the remaker thinks they can do it better than the original and only screw it up... :p

The sad fact is that the Shining remake is actually more true to the Stephen King novel than the original movie was.

Ocean's Eleven
War of the Worlds
Night of the Living Dead

All bad remakes. 99.99999999999999999% of remakes are inherently bad. Just because you can have better special effects today doesn't mean you need to use them.

Some re-makes can be really good. One of my favourite TV series -> Movie remakes ever was "The Brady Bunch Movie" and "The Brady Bunch Sequel". They kept it true to the series, and the way the they spoofed the father's "We could all learn a lesson from this" speeches was hilarious

That wasn't really a remake as much as a "spoof" Like this is Spinal Tap and A Mighty Wind...

Most remakes are really bad, IMO!

SOMETIMES music remakes can be ok, but when I hear the Beatles sampled in hip hop!!! OMG lol

But in general, I feel if the movie or show or song is good enough to make you WANT to remake it... LEAVE IT ALONE!!!

of all the remakes i've seen, most of them i can't comment whether they're better or worse because i haven't seen the original! the ones i have seen though i think it's safe to say that most of them do indeed suck. however, the last remake i saw was in the theater last week, The Departed. this is probably the exception where i'll say that the remake is better than the original.

Technically, The Brady Bunch, Charlie's Angels, My Favorite Martian, etc. movies are not remakes, they're adaptations since they were never movies to begin with.
Think of it as a reverse M*A*S*H, which was a movie that was adapted into a TV series. The most successful of it's kind ever.

Spinal Tap and Mighty Wind weren't spoofs in the traditional sense. Because of the docmentary style of production, they're part of a separate genre called "mockumentary"; with Spinal Tap being the first of its kind.
