Yahoo! Widgets (formerly known as Konfabulator) -- http://widgets.yahoo.com

This is practically the engine of "Web 2.0", as it uses smaller programs (called "Widgets") to perform various things, like monitoring your battery power (for laptops), WiFi signal strength, even check weather & your emails without actually loading up your browser or other utilities.

Yahoo! Widgets require Windows XP OR Mac OS X to use, internet access (WiFi or Broadband) is highly suggested as a good amount of widgets go online to access information.

Yahoo! Widgets Engine is SPYWARE FREE. However, it's possible for a 3rd party widget (ones created by other users) may include some (although it's unlikely). Use caution when using unknown or untrusted widgets.

The latest additions to "Cool Stuff" to try:

Taskbar Shuffle
Site: http://www.freewebs.com/nerdcave/taskbarshuffle.htm
Download size: 624 KB

This is a pretty cool utility program! It allows you to move items in your taskbar around for the organizational freaks out there. It works with all versions of Windows (down to Windows 98).

Sarbyx TrayClock
Site: http://www.sarbyxlabs.com/en/sarbyxtc.html
Download size: 430 KB

This is something that I was looking for use in XP... It allows you to expand the functionality of your system's clock by adding seconds & the date displayed as well as to skin your clock.

The program includes 50 skins for you to try out a clock that works with your set-up.

Here's a few new additions to the list:

* Recuva -- http://www.recuva.com
From the makers of CCleaner is Recuva (pronounced like Recover, but more "Arnold"-like). Recuva allows you to recover deleted files on your hard drive, similar to Norton's Undelete. It lists all the files that may be recovered & tell you the likelihood of recovering the file.

* TrueCrypt -- http://www.truecrypt.com
TrueCrypt is a powerful, open-source encryption tool. It allows you to create encryption containers or even encrypt an entire hard-drive. Supports various encryption algorithms & whatnot. It also allows you to create Hidden containers (or a container within a container) to ensure that your more sensitive files stay protected!
