Re: Ahhhhh.
Jackets GM work = w00tness. This is seriously twice as good of a team now as it was before. Stuff of importance:<
><
>Gains:<
>D Adam Foote (shutdown D, veteran leader)<
>D Brian Berard (finally, a genuine scoring D!)<
>G Martin Prusek (WAY the hell better than Brathwaite)<
>C Jan Hrdina (good second-line player)<
>Couple other guys (like D Radoslav Suchy, who was decent for Phoenix)<
><
>Losses:<
>D Jaroslav Spacek (replaced by Berard, who's better)<
>C Andrew Cassels (sucked, waste of money, bought out)<
>D Scott Lachance (sucked even more, bought out)<
>G Fred Brathwaite (sucked)<
>D Anders Eriksson (replaced by Foote, who's much better)<
>C Alexander Svitov (probably stuck in Russia for this season, back next year)<
><
>The Jackets' biggest weakness last year was a lack of depth, experience, and scoring power on defense. Now that they have Foote and Berard as leaders and the young guys like Klesla and Westcott have an extra year of AHL/European experience, that weakness has been thoroughly dealt with. On top of that, Hrdina should be better than that disappointing wanker Cassels was, and Prusek is one of the best G. Backups out there, meaning the Jackets can finally win reliably when Denis has to get some rest. Nice. <
><
>There's no guarantee the Jackets'll make the playoffs this year, but they're certainly going to put up a fight and make it close. Once the young core of rising talent in their farm system makes it to the top level, though, then this team is gonna be scary. <

Re: Ahhhhh.
I don't think there are too many players on the Jackets who I'd be really pissed about if they got let go like that. Nash, probably Denis, and maybe Jody Shelley (their enforcer, goofy-looking with all his missing teeth, but awesome ), but that's about it. The team hasn't been around long enough for me to get really attached to any of the players on it yet. <

Re: Ahhhhh.
Ruutu signed at $600k for one year.<
><
>Cooke is apparently looking to be the 4th highest paid forward on the team, which is ridiculous, since he's a 3rd line player. Odds are he'll be shipped out soon enough.<
><
>Apparently -- and I can't confirm this -- Cliff Ronning would be willing to return to the Canucks to finish off his career there, and would accept as low an offer as $450k to do so. While this would have been outrageous last season, with the cap, if he truly wants to play in Van-city that much, it's not that far off of a possibility.<
><
>Anyway, I've heard from a couple places that he's said outright he'd take $450k, I just can't seem to find any articles regarding it, so I'm treating it as a rumour until I'm certain. <i>There are many rules of<

Re: Ahhhhh.
Wasn't he on the Wild before? Did he get traded last season or released or what? For that matter, how old is he now, anyway? Like 40? <

Re: Ahhhhh.
Ronning played 4 years with the Blues, 6 with the Canucks, 3 with the Coyotes, 4 with the Predators, then went one year each for the Kings in '01-'02, the Wild in '02-'03, and the Islanders in '03-'04. I haven't been around long enough to know why he left the Canucks, but he was a primary part of the roster back when he was with us, and apparently would like to come back. At $450k, an extra solid centreman is really something that the Canucks can't refuse, at least in my books. And if this is all true, Nonis will surely get a severe asskicking from all Vancouver if he doesn't sign him.<
><
>Ronning was 17-31-48 in 80 games with the Wild in '02-'03 (he only played half a season with the Islanders).<

Re: Ahhhhh.
Okay, now I'm totally lost. The Canucks have signed Brent Johnson, formerly of Phoenix, formerly of St. Louis, to an undisclosed deal. If it's two-way, it's not horrible, but still, it's room on the cap we don't need, and really, Auld can handle the job. If Auld winds up stuck in Manitoba thanks to this, I'll be quite angry. :"> <i>There are many rules of<

Re: Ahhhhh.
I don't see why they'd send Auld down to the minors, but he definitely won't get much playing time this way unless Meatwadier (read: Cloutier) decides to start playing during the regular season the way he has during the last few playoffs or Johnson plays like that instead (or both). The chances of that happening aren't super low, but they're still not really all that high, either. <
