My latest project.

Post by Shawn »

Since I have got my Yamaha Drum Kit expanded as much as I can I started on a new one. I bought these a few days ago and already in it about $2500. This new kit is a pro level kit so the price is much higher then my Yamaha drums. Here are a few pics oh ho wit looks now but not what it will be after I am done.

Nice additions, Shawn! Hopefully, they'll
bring in even more! I'm sure the n-
eighbors wouldn't mind if the-
y are part of the band. I-

I've not had any complaints from the neighbors, but I don't play real early in the day or after 8pm so that I don't have any problems.
It's a fun kit to sit behind and play, but I have found myself still using the bigger Yamaha kit more. I jumped in this project in hopes of being able to get used to a smaller drum kit but I don't think it's working so well.
I can always resell and recoup what I have in what I don't keep if it comes to that. Might actually make a little profit if I were to do so. I did switch some things around and put the rack pictured on my Yamaha kit since it looks better with it.
My Yamaha kit is pretty much done.I have no where to put anything new on it LOL it's kind of huge now and it was suppose to stay small. Last I measured it was 7 feet across in the back and 4 foot deep. Kind of takes up a lot of room, but a heck of a lot of fun to play. Pictures really do it no justice in seeing how big it is.

Here are some pictures of my Yamaha Drums. I didn't do an overhead shot because it's to big to fit everything into 1 picture.
I grabbed a few more things to add to it and have a few more things I want to get for it sometime in the future.
I do have a lot of money wrapped up in this kit but it's well worth it to me and it gets a lot of use. I
t took me nearly 2 years to build this up and after a few more purchases hopefully one with the exception
of new heads once a year and new sticks or anything that needs repaired.
Click on the pics for a bigger picture.

Wow! I didn't realize they were complete sets!!! For some
reason, I was thinking a basic set in spite of your me-
ntions they weren't (laughs). I'm surprised you ha-
d room for both sets. You really need to get r-
id of that older set for the sake of room a-
lone (laughs). Not that it would be a n-
eccessity, but I'm sure you have ot-
her ideas for the additional spa-
ce that you'd free up. Hopef-
ully you can sell the class-
ic set locally because
shipping alone wo-
uld be a deterr-
ent if sold a-
ny other
way.

I had to get rid of this project.Car broke down and needed repaired and it was a pretty big bill to get the car fixed. I really don't miss it and still have my Yamaha kit which has grown a little more as far as cymbals go.
I took it out on Saturday night for a friend to use and I played a few songs. The place was small and my drums took up most of where the band played at,but we made it work. I was very very sore Saturday night after tearing down and setting them back up and then tearing them down and loading them back in my car and then back into the house. I got the drums in the house and let the kids bring the hardware in from the car Sunday.
I will never be able to use a small kit since I have always used a big set up since I started playing. I will probably never really be done buying things for the Yamaha kit since I have a bigger and better rack that will hold a bunch of stuff. It's pretty weighed down now and I stood on it and it didn't move an inch or buckle under the weight. I came out ok when I sold the Tama kit and kept the rack that came with it for mine since it is 10x better then my old one.It sells for around $450 with clamps,Mine came with 10 and I bought 2 more for the back corner of the rack. Here's a video done this past Saturday of me behind the kit with a band.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to cancel the project, but at
least your car got repaired which was much more imp-
ortant and necessary I'm certain. That was a good
cover in my opinion. I'm not sure how large th-
e audience was, but I was expecting a mu-
ch more lively response after the cove-
r. Who was the guy in the black shi-
rt that decided to keep his back
to the camera (laughs)? I was
hoping that he'd move so t-
hat I could get a better
view of the drums. I
could imagine ho-
w much of a ch-
allenge it wo-
uld be to a-
ssemble
and d-
isas-
semble
that kit (w-
hich is probab-
ly why you don't p-
lay out like this too o-
ften... or do you?). Keep-
ing the rack was a good idea
considering how much better it
is than your previous one. I'm glad
that you were able to sell it without t-
oo much of a problem (or was it?). I doub-
t that you'll be playing with your band-mates
any time soon at all, but if so, it would be good
to record the events for some exposure. I'm sure th-
ere are locations which could use your talents and wou-
ld pay nicely for musical entertainment. You'd probably ha-
ve to hire someone to help with your kit though, or so I'd think.

Thanks! The guy in the black shirt does part of the lead vocals the guy who was actually singing is the drummer for that band.
Ya that kit is a monster and that was the first time it's been moved since December of last year. It's just way to much work to moving it around,I'd have to tear it down and set it 2x in 1 night, and for the little
bit of pay that it does pay isn't worth it,but I got the next best thing,I can play with these guys whenever!
And yeah that rack has made my life so much easier being able to adjust it as much as it can.

You're welcome. While that guy is important to the group
I'm sure, he made the video less viewable (laughs). J-
ust kidding, though it did look a bit awkward wit-
h his back to the camera. I know you said the
mic was only available for one part of you-
r drum set, but it sounded good. It wo-
uld have been nice if you were allo-
wed a solo (pardon the pun) ses-
sion toward the end of the p-
erformance and an introd-
uction as well as the ot-
her band-mates, but
I guess it wouldn't
be a real cover
at that poin-
t. When w-
ill you a-
ll play
aga-
in?

Not sure when I will play again.I have to play catch up with the bills now since I took a night off and was sick this past weekend.
I watched the video after I posted and he was working on his wireless mic.It only worked when it wanted to and he finally finished with a corded mic.
He did announce me as a 5th member of the band since I have known them for over 20 years and have done a lot to help them out when I could.
Here is another song I played back in December with them.I hadn't listened to the song in ages so I played from memory. http://youtu.be/nPAsGfCzPfA

Ok, THAT'S more like it (laughs)! I'm glad he finally got that
mic working. Congratulations on becoming the 5th me-
mber, Shawn. I'm sorry to hear you missed time o-
ff from work, but hopefully you feel better b-
y now. I hope they can work with your sc-
hedule so you can perform. You're sti-
ll going to need help with your dr-
um set (or extra time to set u-
p and for transportation).
I'm sure just disassem-
bling and the reve-
rsed promote le-
ngthy time f-
rames al-
one!!

(nice session by the way...)

:banger:

I
guess
this could
be considered
as a solo session f-
or you since the drums
stand out so much in this p-
erformance... rather, the cymb-
als (laughs). Great work out there!

Thanks! I don't get to go out often and see any live bands since I work every weekend, but I sneak a few days off here and there.

My back won't allow me to do music every weekend.I rarely sleep at night because of the pain so it's toss and turn all night. When I work, towards the end of the night I am ready to get the heck home it hurts so bad. I don't take anything for the pain now.I gave all that up,damn near ruined my life again so I am not going to chance it anymore with pain meds.I just live with the pain. I did see another specialist and he was an F'n joke,so much so,I called my insurance company and told them to fight the charges since neither his nurse or himself touched me,or even took my blood pressure but wrote out 5 scripts I never went and got.I refuse to be drugged anymore and will deal with this the hard way. My mind is clear and I can think again,I am not giving that up for anything. I guess people don't realize how bad Vicodin is until you are on it and then stop taking it and see everything differently. I also turned the Doctor into the state for fraud since he didn't do anything and shouldn't get paid. I see another Doctor on April 30th so we will see what he says.

I'm sorry to hear that you still endure painful episodes. I forgot that
you've refrained from taking medicine for this ailment. My g/f h-
as problems with her back also and tries to go without takin-
g the meds. She's done well so far, but occasionally, it ge-
ts to be too much for her to bear and she gives in, but
this rarely happens. Another reason why it gets to t-
his point is because she still eats plenty of swee-
ts and doesn't stay on top of her diabetes as w-
ell as she should. These factors (and others)
contribute to the pain she receives. It's a
shame that there are doctors who see
patients as cash-cows so-to-speak a-
nd are quick to prescribe medicin-
e so that the problem is not cur-
ed, just prolonged. They will
not tell you the natural wa-
y of treating your ailmen-
ts or natural medicine
that can be taken to
aid your health iss-
ues or even wha-
t you can do t-
o better you-
r health to
remedy
your
iss-
ues. I
do hope t-
hat the repor-
t gets noticed. Th-
e sad news is that the
companies responsible fo-
r said medicines pay these do-
ctors to endorse and prescribe th-
em, so essentially the doctors are doi-
ng their jobs by prescribing them when th-
ey do. It's kind of like when a sports star gets
an endorsement for a product only to later be ob-
ligated to support the product via commercial, weari-
ng or using it. I hope the next doctor is unlike the bad one.
