DO NOT install SP1 from Windows Update.

I did and had to spend two hours undoing the damage it caused.

This is especially true for 64-bit users.

SP1 Didn't effect my 64 Bit Laptop any. I use Windows 7 Home Premium. Are you using another version of W7 (ie Enterprise)? I've heard that the Sp1 Does have problems with that and the Windows Server 2008.

Hmmm...Possibly a W7Pro problem, doesn't have any ill effects on W7HP
