Been on vacation this week and out and about as usual giving the camera a workout. The main trip was to Plum Island... a barrier island off the northeast coast of MA. A place a beautiful scenery, nice beaches and salt marshes... the latter of which breed the only negative of the island... flesh munching, blood lapping Greenheads and horseflies. A few of the highlights here, rest in the galleria.
Just HAD to whip out the macro lens for the ugly, huh? Looks like a nice place in general, though. Bugs aside, I've always liked areas with water of some form in or around them.

Of coooooooooourse! How could I resist? Actually made use of all my lenses on this trip. Was hoping to capture a good shot of the greenheads, but happy enough I made it out without getting eaten alive
Yeah, that's one of the only major problems with some waterside locations - the friggin' bugs. Obviously swamps are going to have way more than their fair share of bugs, but any other kind of relatively stagnant water will do that, too. I think I personally like hilly, forested areas with streams or rivers the best. Hiking in those places is great.
Impressive pictures (and yes, I even
mean the close-ups... laughs)! I
wonder if it's possible to ow-

terms of micro-sh-

While point & shoots can reap very good results at the macro level.... very good as I've done many myself back with my Sony H5, I don't think they'll ever rival that of a good dedicated macro lens on a DSLR... it's just a whole other world with a specific build of optics to accomplish the task. Point & shoots will always be made to cover a more general range, so getting the results of a DSLR's dedicated lens isn't really a possibility. Probably why they cost a few arms & legs
Yeah, you're definitely right about that. The entire technology level between point-and-shoots and DSLRs is fundamentally different, even if the basic scientific principle of photography is the same. That's like comparing generic Taco Bell meat to Kobe beef or filet mignon.
And you're right about the quality of point and shoot vs DSLR. I didn't want to spend the money it would take for a high-end DSLR camera. Photography can be a VERY expensive hobby.
Yeah, you have to be pretty passionate about photography to go DSLR. Aside from the extraordinary cost of lenses (which can be an expensive addiction buying) There's time involved just learning and reading on all the ins and outs of getting the most out of your shots in varying conditions. A lot of fun, though!
