No problem Ingrid.<
>First off, if you have a home cinema set up, you should always try to make sure the centre speaker is the same make as the front speakers.<
>Some
ands sound different, and as effects pan from side to side, they will sound out of kilter with each other.<
>A common mistake I have seen a lot of people make is that they have their centre channel volume set too high, and this will swamp any effects you should be hearing.<
>Mass loading.<
>Some floorstanding speakers have a panel in the bottom of them that you fill with either lead weights or sand bags, and this cuts down any unwanted vi
ations in the speaker cabinets.<
>Are you using shelf speakers?<
>Set fire to them, then dance nekkid on their smoking remains before burying them, and going out and investing in a decent set of floor standers. <
>Hee! Hee! Only joking.<
>(Well, half joking anyway!)<
>Get some Blu-Tack,(I dont know if you know it by this name, but its the blue stuff like silly putty you can stick posters up with) and place it between the speaker and the shelf. Again, this cuts down on vi
ation.<
>Are you using a sub-woofer for extra bass?<
>If so then what type?<
>Passive or Active?<
>To a newbie, the passive will look like a better deal for the price difference alone.<
>You make a big trade off though.<
>An active sub only takes a signal from your amplifier, then does the rest with its own onboard amplifier, passive sub's take a signal AND draw power from your amp as well.<
>I'm sure theres a lot I'm missing out, and if anybody else has points they would like to make, I'd love to hear them.

In my original post I mentioned Passive & Active Sub-Woofers.<
>Unfortunately I didnt go far enough. (I was only thinking of my own system)<
>If you have a Dolby Digital (5.1 channel) system, then an active sub is probably redundant.<
>The .1 in 5.1 is a dedicated sub channel in any Digital amp, so will not have any adverse effect on the amps performance.
