"What the Hell is a Receiver?"

Post by NeoKnight03 »

If you're wondering this question, here is the answer: It is a machine that you hook all of your home theater parts up to and then puts out better sound through the speakers. It basically is the master of your home theater parts and is the controller of all of your home theater sound (it has master volume, DTS*, Dolby Digital, and a remote to control your speakers output). Just thought I'd answer this question for anyone who didn't know what one is; I'll be talking about things in this forum that will involve a receiver, so I wanted to let everyone know. * means some receivers have DTS, some don't. Ya know, it's good that you point this out because I am sure that there are always people around who are not into this tech stuff. So it's always useful to have this info around. Now...wish I knew why my Sony receiver acts up with cold weather... Another "unsolved" mystery I guess... :) ~Ingrid~

Really? If it is caused by cold weather, I don't know the answer to that one, I'm sorry to say. If it isn't cold weather, I may be able to help you. "Wanna know the best gift of all? No, not a radio receiver, a Home Theater Receiver. It controls the sound on your Home Theater System. "Wanna know the best gift of all? Im with Smittys on this one. What you have described is a home cinema amp with a built in AM/FM tuner. (Thats why it gets called a receiver.)<
>For outright sound quality its not the best bet, as signal chatter interferes with the job the amp is trying to do. (Allthough this is probably only for the Hi-Fi purists.)<
>If you decide to upgrade the amp, go for a seperate tuner, its worth it in the end.<
