PSP GOING BARGIN BIN ALREADY?

Post by soloist »

Joystiq has posted a clip from a Fry's Electronics ad in CA, with $50 off the newly released PSPGo.

Providing further evidence of our belief that there's a nice retail markup on the PSP Go, electronics retailer Fry's has put the UMD-free device on sale for $199, through October 22. Fry's sales tend to vary by location, so it may be wise to call your local store before you begin your epic, miles-long trek through its near-endless expanses.

Pretty drastic price cut after only two weeks on the shelves. Are they taking up shelf space?

The clip?

We verified the sale price with the Austin, TX location, which is pretty far away from the Fremont, CA store whose ad appears here, so it would seem to be nationwide.

That $50 discount almost puts the Go near the price point of the previous PSP models!

The PSPGo only has 16GB internal memory and no means of connecting to external memory. What happens when you use up the internal memory and want to buy new games?

I guess buy the PSP anyways, then but a new one with 32GB a few months later. And after a year, buy the 64GB one.

If you going with the PSP... stick with the original as you can buy extra memory cards to swap out when they get stuff with DLC.

I agree with sticking to the previous versions of
the PSP, especially since by now, those who
have invested in the system and has of-
ificial titles would own quite a many
UMD's right now, and there is no
need to reinvest in those titl-
es once again. I still think
that this direction was
a waste in spite of
the idea to prev-
ent illegal act-
ivities that
the olde-
r ver-
sions of
the PSP are
used for. But if
there were more s-
oftware that utilized t-
he system's features, the-
n illegal use would be minim-
ized (not eliminated completely).
In other words, give the consumers
what they want or they'll find ways aro-
und to insuring that they get what they fe-
el entitled to. I doubt the GO will do well unti-
l new titles are downloadable and for a smaller c-
ost (and when the HDD is upgradeable). I doubt this.
