New Canadian Citizenship Law

Post by whistledog »

It's not really new, I'm just a little late in hearing about it LOL

On April 17, 2009, a new law in Canada was granted that states anyone born outside of Canada on or after January 1, 1947 to atleast one Canadian born parent is automatically granted Canadian Citizenship effective on the date of their birth (which means those who fall into this category are/were born into Canadian Citizenship regardless of what country they were actually born in)

http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLish/citizenshi ... enship.asp

By these new rules, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jorja Fox, Erika Eleniak, Ricky Gervais, Carly "Carlito" Colón, Vince Vaughn, Robin Thicke, Amanda Bynes and Paula Abdul (among others who I haven't yet figured out) are all Canadian Citizens. How awesome is that! :thumb:

Here's the hilariously bad commercial telling people about it:

Ah man. I reaaaaally wish one of my parents were Canadian born. So are they trying to get more people into Canada? I'd go if the paperwork is reasonable.

Eh... I like it here. Don't particularly need Canadian citizenship for any reason. :\ Besides, a) my entire family immigrated directly from Europe and has never spent any time in Canada, so there's no chance of this applying to me anyway, and b) Canada has already done me enough good just by producing hockey. :p

I can't believe that he didn't start mowing down the maple lead shaped cookie, topped with the maple syrup! I mean, he's OBVIOUSLY not Canadian. We'll just have to put him into the secret Canadianization training camps where they teach important things like how to enjoy watching curling, the proper pancake-to-maple-syrup ratio, how the hell to tell what the refs are signaling in hockey, and how to properly use the word 'Eh.'

That commercial is pretty bad, which is really how you know it's Canadian. We never have the best commercials by far of anything LOL

I am still having troubles accepting the fact that Paula Abdul is now Canadian. Radios still play her songs enough, but now they can play her songs even more to meet their CANCON quotas. Thank god for Cassette tape adapters that let me listen to my Walkman mp3 in my car :D

   OK, so I need to be properly educated on how the residents of the different provinces poke fun at the residents of other provinces. I'm only familiar with regional US stereotypes, like how all New Yorkers are arrogant or all people from Minnesota talk like in the movie Fargo or all people from the south are rednecks. :p

^ And that is particularly why the rest of Canada, especially those in Saskatchewan and west thereof, HATE Ontario with a burning passion that could only be quelled by the burning of the reason for said hatred.

Oh, and Quebec too. Stupid frenchy bastards.

OK, so I get that the rest of Canada regards all Ontarians (is that right?) as self-centered and arrogant, kinda like the New Yorker stereotype I mentioned before. So what do Ontarians think of the rest of Canada? That they're a bunch of backwoods hicks? :p
