Which bank do you use?
I've had a checking and Visa card through Wells Fargo for a long time. Mostly it's been okay. No extra charges since I usually pay off any credit card balance right away and I have direct deposit which makes the checking account free.
There was once bad incident when an ATM was out of cash but it still subtracted $100 from my account anyways. I had to call in and they did some investigation or whatever and it took a few days for $100 in "provisional credit" to appear in my account. Even then I waited about a week before that cleared into real credit, back into my checking account. I didn't like that and I wonder how many people don't even notice that and how much Wells Fargo makes from people who never claimed back their money.
And recently I was charged the infamous PHONE BANKER CALL fee. In the call I made recently, I didn't do anything ATM related or transfer funds over the phone. So I had to call and get it reversed which is of course in the "pending" phase so I have to wait for that. Again I wonder how much money Wells Fargo makes from people who don't notice that or bother disputing it.
Are all banks like this? Which bank do you use?
I'm considering switching to a credit union. The one where I live is http://www.schoolsfirstfcu.org/
I'm not a current student but my sister has an account and family members of account holders can join. But there's something about a couple of fees to join and I'm not sure if I should pay those.

Re: Which bank do you use?
I just use Fifth Third at the moment. They've never given me any trouble with anything, but I haven't attempted to do much with my account, either. I pretty much just withdraw cash from their ATMs and deposit whatever checks I get to it, including my direct-deposit paychecks from work. The main reasons I switched to them a year and something ago were because they have a good number of ATMs around the area and because the interest rate on their checking account was decent (still really low, obviously, since it is just a checking account, but better than my old bank). It's pretty convenient that way.

Re: Which bank do you use?
Right now I use WaMu. They've been good to me so far. When they had charge me overdraft fees on the same day I deposited money into my account, they promptly credited me back all charges.
When I had someone removing monies out of my account, they gave me the companies 800 number, which promptly replaced all the money they had took out on me on some hidden scam having to do with AMC movie theaters.
I refuse to open up another account with Wells Fargo. They were charging fees left and right on me.

I use Comerica and I also have a credit union account in my hometown. I kept it so my mom & I can send money back and forth if necessary. I'm thinking of switching my Comerica account to a credit union (one that's close to me). Comerica charges for online banking and the credit union I'm looking at does not.
You tried your best and failed miserably. The lesson is, "never try."

I'm gonna see if I can stop by the credit union my sister uses tomorrow for some answers. As soon as something clears up with my Wells Fargo account, I'm ready to ditch them.

I use Chase and they've been pretty good.

Which would mean you're actually with JPMorgan Chase now since they bought 'em out.Southern Image wrote:Right now I use WaMu.
I go to Eastern... relatively small independent bank based just in this region. Pretty good rates on everything and I know everyone at my branch from the tellers to upper management, so they treat me very well

Re: Which bank do you use?
I use a local credit union as well. The only charge is a per withdrawal 40¢ one (ATMs or debit payments), and doesn't apply to online bill payments, or to transfers to other members' accounts, so I manage to avoid it altogether most months. (I find it ironic that due to this setup, it's credit card payments that are totally free for me.
No charge for the credit card payment, no charge to pay it off with online banking bill payments, and no interest charge because I pay it off fully before any payment comes due.)

Re: Which bank do you use?
I don't have any ATM charges as long as I use a Fifth Third ATM, which is easy because there are loads of them around Columbus. I also never pay interest on my credit card either, because I always pay my bills on time. A little responsibility goes a long way.
Re: Which bank do you use?
Chooch and I use US Bank. They've been pretty good to us.
A few years back someone managed to get a hold of our bank account. Fortunately they never made any withdrawals but for some odd reason they DEPOSITED over 1k into our account...Apparently sold a car. Well...if someone sells a car on another person's account..that can raise a few eyebrows, especially since we didn't have a car to sell at the time. For all I knew, the car was probably stolen. Anyway, Chooch promptly called the bank. They changed our account number, put all our "legit" funds into the new account. Haven't had problems since. Plus everytime we make a purchase on our check card (Which is pretty frequently since I rarely carry cash on me), US Bank credits us $5.00. Not much I know, but it adds up!

Re: Which bank do you use?
What does it mean when they credit you $5. Do they put that credit on your credit card for you to spend?

Re: Which bank do you use?
Yeah, I don't get the free ATM thing, but like you said - never pay interest on the credit card, so I can just use that instead.Frong wrote:I don't have any ATM charges as long as I use a Fifth Third ATM, which is easy because there are loads of them around Columbus. It means we get $5.00 put into our account. We have to use the card so many times and they add it up.Lagoon Bug wrote:What does it mean when they credit you $5. Do they put that credit on your credit card for you to spend?
